9/11/21 The event is now full. For VIP and Premium Members, we'll be running the main overlanding route in the heartbeat of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. About 80% Gravel roads with winding kettles roads. This is new-rider friendly but does contain some park and crawls... however, it's not crawling trails so if that's all you're into, this ride might not be the right fit for you.

Starting south near Horicon and we'll head up towards the northern kettles. This ride will take all day. Please do not split off from the group without letting us know if you are leaving!

9am you'll need to be on site this means it could be an hour drive just to get to the starting location so plan accordingly. Rain or shine. Dress accordingly.

Fee: None, just bring you rmembership card. If you're not a member, you can join now and I'll bring your stuff to the ride.

Communication: GMRS only. Have a small handheld from a local box store if you don't have a base radio. Channel 16. I'll also have ham radio APRS on.

We'll plan to stop for lunch and about once an hour. If you bring kids or dogs, and you need to make a pit stop, you may lose the group.

Max: 20 rigs

RSVP and I'll share the exact address where we are meeting. This is offered for those who support RL4WD with a paid membership. Without you, none of this would be possible. We don't post the address or non-members show up expecting a free guided ride.

Once you RSVP, I'll send a PM with the rest of the details.

Meet at the main parking lot around 9am to sign waivers and rig check lists. driver meeting at 10 and then we will hit the trails. depending on how many rigs show up will determine if we split up into groups or stay as one. i am setting the cost at $30 for this event, 10 to camp 10 to Glacial Lake and 10 to Clearwater because this was supposed to be their event. Contact Ranger Sara for cabin availability if you want to stay the weekend. Depending on interest there can be a night ride Sat. radio communication will be on GMRS channel 16. i hope to see alot of you there.

Hello everyone. I now have the dates set for my Colorado 2021 trip. The dates will be August 21st - August 28th. There is a total of 3 "vehicle" openings with a total of 6 people. The total for lodging is going to be $335 per person or $670 per couple for the 7 nights. We do plan on trail riding Sunday through Friday. The way the trails are set is thay you can head back to the house early if you would like or if you'd like to not trail ride for the day, there will be plenty of sightseeing to do in the area. We will be staying in Alma, Colorado. Tuesday, pending weather, we plan on doing the Jeep badge of honor trail Holy Cross. If it ends up raining that day, we will do it a different day. The trails will range from easy to difficult. There will be lots of scenery to see and lots of old mining ruins along the trails that we will be checking out along the way. I like to plan my trips with a wide variety of things to do that will suit everybody's likes. The majority of the vacation will be at 9,000 feet in elevation with a bunch of it being over 12,000 feet. I would love to see anyone participate, but the air does get thin up there so I would not recommend it to anybody with breathing issues. I do plan on having a meeting sometime this Spring with everybody that is going so that everybody knows what to expect and can meet each other. There will be a total of five or six vehicles going along. This way we can keep the group moving as some of these trails in the difficult areas can take extra time. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. I do plan on leaving the Thursday prior to get out there. Check in at the house is 3 p.m. on the 21st and check out is 10 a.m. on the 28th.

UPDATED:

Here is the list of trails that we will be doing.  They go from super easy to difficult.  The scenery along all the trails is going to be amazing.  I've personal never been to this area, but it will be my 6th time out to Colorado on the trails.  This is a rough itinerary as Monday and Tuesday's trails will get moved around accordingly if it is going to be raining those days.

Saturday: Check in to house after 3pm

Sunday: Wheeler Lake Trail- Difficult, Lower Mt. Bross- Easy

Monday: Webster Pass/Handcart Gulch- Moderate, Red Cone- Difficult

Tuesday: Holy Cross (Jeep badge of Honor trail)

Wednesday: Chalk Mountain- Easy, Mosquito Pass- Moderate, Birdseye Gulch- Difficult

Thursday: North Twin Cone- Difficult, Boreas Pass- Easy, Peak 10 Breckenridge- Moderate

Friday: Weston Pass- Easy, Halfmoon Gulch- Difficult

Saturday: Check out of house 10am

They are not crazy extreme trails (well maybe Tuesday) but with the elevation, extreme drop offs and switchbacks I usually equate it to adding 2 levels to a trail rating.  For those that want to ride along on harder days there will be room in vehicles that I know are going already.  Goggle the trails if you'd like and then you can ask away if you have further questions.  I'll gladly answer whatever questions you might have.  I do also plan on bring a air compressor, welder, and a fair amount of tools if you happen to break while wheeling.

Thank you,

Dave Vogel

Meeting at Sinawa at 11am in the gravel parking lot to do some light trail riding and some brushing. Max of 5 rigs. $20 donation expected at the gate, 100% of proceeds go to Camp Sinawa to help maintain the trails.

Memberships: You'll need a VIP membership or Premium Membership. Please bring your card, I can look it up online otherwise.

Bring water, snacks, lunch, bug spray, tools, tow rope, fire extinguisher, and GMRS radio. Also, bring some loppers and gloves as well be stopping from time to time to brush some trails.

This is a new member-type ride. We won't be doing anything super difficult and you won't be forced or peer-pressured into anything you don't want to do. I'm here to help you learn how to trail ride on dirt, rock, logs, and hills as the group is comfortable doing so. We'll ride into the afternoon as a group.

Kids and dogs are welcome, but be sure dogs are leashed and everything has tick protection on. This is a very relaxed riding atmosphere and we're here to have fun in the woods, not break stuff. There may be a few puddles, but we don't have trails here that are mud-bogging type trails.

Saturday we'll meet at Camp Sinawa to do some trail cleanup and camping Saturday and Sunday. This is tent/overlanding trailer RV camping in the grassy campsite on the west side.

Premium Members / VIP Members only.

Limit 10 rigs unless we get some more Trail Ambassadors along.

This is a work camp so if you're helping brush trails, there is no cost to camp/ride. You can still donate in the donation bin, most of us toss a $20 in the box as we enter. Wanna show landowners how we're the best? Brush trails AND donate... that's how we keep these locations open.

Camp Sinawa has had a lot of rain these last few weeks so trails may be too soft for some (preserve the hills).

If you'd like to camp Friday night, please let me know. I plan to be out there with the overlanding trailer sometime in the afternoon to unlock the gate. You can also call the camp and see if cabins are available.

If you aren't a member yet, you can join at https://rl4wd.com/member/join/online and I can bring your membership material with me.

Please bring over the ankle boots, bug spray, water, food, firewood, etc.

Bring brushing gear such as snips, loppers, weed whackers, and even chain saws. You'll need safety glasses on for powered equipment and chainsaws you'll need chaps and saw helmet.

Join us for a fun-filled July 4th weekend at Big Snow! This property offers loads of crawling trails and new this year, we're going to set up more overlanding routes! Stay and play or head out on adventures around MI/WI trails.

Be sure to grab your ORV and ORV Trail stickers from MI DNR if you plan to overland with us - https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-350-79119_79148_80650-424059--,00.html HIGHLY advised to have a HAM RADIO of at least 50watts with APRS and a good antenna. We'll be in many areas without cell coverage.

Ham Radio - 146.460 / 446.000 calling.

GMRS Radios - Channel 16 (please don't bring FRS radios). Please remember to use your GMRS call sign if you have a high-power GMRS radio.

Trail passes for Big Snow can be purchased from Big Snow at the time of your visit.

Bring recovery gear, winch and mud tires are highly advised for the slow speed trails. The trails span over almost 1,500 acres across 3 ski mountains. They are a BLAST and an amazing experience.

Enjoy the pool, spa, bar and firepits after a nice day of riding! Be sure to get your room with AC, some of the rooms do NOT have ac and some of us almost melted last year. RL4WD member discount is stay 2 nights, get a 3rd for free.

Overlanding tours will meet back at Big Snow each night.

Trail Guides / Ambassadors may also be taking their own groups out. RL4WD Chapters may be setting up their own rides and fundraisers as well. This is a great place to meet with WI/MI/MN 4X4 clubs and talk about how we can keep expanding our trail networks together!

Bring an air compressor for airing tires back up. The location doesn't have one (yet).

Big Snow takes safety very seriously so always wear your belt, never drink and drive, and never go out on the trails alone. You will be removed from the property or law enforcement will be called in if you can't follow the rules.

This is a great place for family fun, pets, and all different types of riding. It's a magical place to visit.
