The 7 Hour Plane Crash Trail starts near Crandon, Wisconsin, and goes through Copper Harbor, Michigan. This overlanding route includes segments of pavement, dirt, sand, rock, and does a good job defining what an Overlanding route is all about.
From the original creator GPG3 - I'm a Wisconsin native who lived out West for a little while after college. I raced stock mini-class in the desert and was a member of the TOYOTA / Ivan Stewart Race Team. When I moved back, I really missed the accessibility to trails that have a Baja feel to them. Well,... I mapped out the "7 Hour Plane Crash Trail". This is a scenic trail that's technical enough to keep mall crawlers and disco jeeps away. It's 90% off-road. It feels like the Baja 500's Pine Forest Section. Don't worry, you won't need any big winches or recovery gear. Just some ground clearance and good tires. Enjoy!! Keep in mind there are many scenic areas that run parallel to this trail. Have Fun!! Slogan: The 7 Hour Plane Crash Trail; Makes the Min Van Grade "Wisconsin Adventure Trail" seems like a boring ride to Grandma's House.
Why is it called the 7 Hour Plane Crash Trail? GPG3: This trail is about 300 miles long which takes about 7 hours nonstop. If you take your time and enjoy the beauty that surrounds this trail. You can make it a 2 to 3-day trip.
So it has nothing to do with a plane crash or anything historical.
